A Mystical Escape in Rouen: A Seine River Cruise Port We Won't Forget

Ah, Rouen! This charming city nestled on the banks of the Seine stole a piece of our hearts on our recent river cruise. Unlike many cruise ports, Rouen puts you right in the heart of the action. Cobblestone streets lined with half-timbered houses emanated a mystical vibe, whispering tales of a bygone era. While the allure of Norman cuisine lingered (more on that later!), the sights and history of Rouen truly captivated us.

A Guided Journey Through Time

Our river cruise included a fantastic walking tour, the perfect way to delve into Rouen's rich tapestry. The magnificent Rouen Cathedral left us speechless with its soaring spires and intricate stained-glass windows. We learned about the life and legacy of Joan of Arc at the Joan of Arc Historial, a captivating museum that brought her story to life. The Aître Saint-Maclou, a hauntingly beautiful charnel house, offered a glimpse into the past with its ornately carved facade, and the Gros Horloge, a marvel of engineering, chimed the hour with its intricate astronomical clockwork.

A Foodie Paradise (Next Time!)

Now, onto the topic that had our stomachs rumbling throughout the day – Norman cuisine! Unfortunately, our exploration of Rouen's culinary scene was postponed due to the May 1st holiday. Most restaurants were closed, but let's just say the menus we peeked at were enough to set our taste buds on fire. Next time, we vow to come prepared! We'll be sure to eat lighter on the ship to save room for indulging in the delectable moules-frites (mussels and fries), creamy cheeses, and flaky pastries Rouen has to offer. Consider this a fair warning, Rouen, we're coming back hungry!

A City That Leaves a Lasting Impression

Rouen's mystical charm left a lasting impression. We wandered down narrow streets, marveling at the architectural details and soaking in the unique atmosphere. Our guided tour offered the perfect introduction to this historic city, but there's so much more to discover. We can't wait to return someday, delve deeper into Rouen's hidden gems, and, of course, finally embark on our long-awaited culinary adventure.
